Another issue that's rampant to Samsung android devices is an app-related problem, in which, it could no longer open a particular app or become unresponsive without apparent reason. Even though this can be considered as a minor issue, but if you're a user this problem is very frustrating or irritating because you cannot use your device properly especially if you really using the app more often.

So, in this post, I'll discuss a problem that users were always complaining about their Gallery app that refuses to open or become unresponsive. Mostly, this issue is caused by several factors and one of it is corrupt app's files and data or the firmware itself had been ruined especially if it is updated recently. So, this time, what we gonna do is to consider all possibilities that triggers the issue by performing the tricks that we often provided to the users that has similar issue. That being said, follow these methods:

Step 1: Perform Soft Reset
Before you can do anything on your S3 it is imperative that you should have to do the so-called soft reset. In other words, you have to refresh phone's memory and close all unnecessary services running in the system. Just remove the battery of your S3 and press the Power button for 10 seconds to release all stored electricity in the hardware components.

After you do so, place it back the battery and power on your device and see if the Gallery will open or not. But if the issue continue to persist, you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Delete the Cache and Data of the Gallery App
More often, issue like this is caused by corrupt cache and data, in which, the firmware could no longer recognized it once it is loaded to the system and resulted it to different types of issues. So, now, all you need to do is to reset your Gallery app, meaning, you have to erase all stored files and data of the app so that newer ones will be created. 
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Application Manager.
  4. Swipe left and choose All tab.
  5. Find and tap Gallery.
  6. Tap Clear Cache button.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
Now, check or open the app to see if the issue will occur or not. If the problem is solved, then, obviously corrupted cache and data triggered the problem. But if the issue still happening after the method, jump over to the next step.

Step 3: Clear the Cache and Data of the Camera App
Probably, you are wondering why you have to delete the cache and data of the camera app, in which, the problem is your Gallery app. If you are not aware of it, the Camera app and Gallery app are deeply connected wherein the photos taken by the Camera and processed by the Gallery app in the system. So, if either of the apps had an issue there is a big chance that the other app will be affected as well or will not function normally. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Application Manager.
  4. Swipe left to choose All tab.
  5. Find and tap Camera.
  6. Tap Clear Cache button.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
However, if the problem continues to occur after the procedure, then, you don't have a choice but proceed to the next step by resetting your phone.

Step 4: Create a Backup and reset your Galaxy S3
In this procedure, you need to create a backup by transferring all files and data to your Personal computer or to your SD card because all of it will be deleted once you proceed to the steps. But the good thing is, this step is very effective especially if this is just a minor issue. Here's how:
  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power button but continue to press and hold the Volume Up and Home buttons.
  4. When the Android System recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home buttons.
  5. Press the Volume Down button to highlight "wipe data/ factory reset."
  6. Press the Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume Down button to highlight "delete all user data."
  8. Press the Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, "Reboot system now" is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key turn and restart the device.

If the device was dropped to a hard surface, then, that would be a factor that your Galaxy Note 4 keeps on rebooting. In other words, there might be some hardware components that had been damaged or loosen due to the dropping and triggered the issue.

On the other hand, if the system had been updated that could be another reason that your phone is experiencing issue like this. It could be the phone's files and data had been ruined and the firmware is unable to recognized once it is loaded and resulted the device to function abnormally. So, in this post, we have to consider all possibilities and rule-out each and every one of them until we can formulate a solution and resolve the issue. That being said, here are the methods that we would like you to do:

Step 1: Perform the Battery-pull procedure
Before you can do any of the procedures on your phone be sure to check it first if the issue is not caused by a glitch in the system or the battery itself is not faulty. Doing so, will refresh phone's memory and closes all unnecessary services in the background. Just remove the battery and press the Power button for 10 seconds to discharge all stored electricity in the hardware components.

After you do so, check the battery of your phone by putting it on the table or to the flat surface and try to flip it. If the battery spins, then obviously the battery is defective and you can replace it to get rid the issue. But if it is not spinning after you flip it place back the battery to the phone and turn it on. Now, after turning it on observe for several minutes to see if the device will still reboots. If the issue continues to happen, proceed to the next method.

Step 2: Boot it in Safe Mode
Sometimes, due to incompatible apps that you installed in the system the performance of the device can also be affected and triggered different types of software-related issues. So, in this instance, we suggest you to restart your phone in Safe mode to eliminate that suspicion. Here's how:

  1. Turn the phone off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons.
  3. When the phone starts to boot, release the Power button but continue to press and hold the Volume Down button and until the phone finishes restarting.
  4. Safe Mode will be displayed at the lower left corner of the screen; you may release the Volume Down button. 
While in this mode, observe your phone for several hours to see if the issue will still occur. If your device function normally while in this environment, then, there's an app that you should find and uninstall to fix this issue. But if the issue still happening even in Safe mode, follow the next step.

Step 3: Delete the System Cache Partition
In this method, we will try to delete all old files and data saved in the partition so that newer ones will be created and could run perfectly once it is loaded to the firmware. Although there is no assurance that this will resolve the issue but some reports from other users saying that after they perform the method their device is already functioning normally. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Turn your phone off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
  3. When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power buttons but continue to press and hold the Volume Up button.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up button.
  5. Using the Volume Down button, highlight the option "wipe cache partition" and press the Power button to select it.
  6. When the wiping of the cache is complete, highlight 'Reboot system now" and hit the Power key.
However, if the issue continue to occur after the method, you jump to the last option and reset your phone.

Step 4: Create a backup and reset your phone
Since, all methods you performed failed to resolve the issue, then, the last thing that you can do is to perform a reset. It will bring the device back to its factory settings and all your files and data will be saved will be deleted. The good thing about the reset is, if this is just a software problem, then, it will be fixed after you do the method. But before you follow the steps be sure to transfer first all your files to your Personal computer or SD card. Here's how:
  1. Turn the phone off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
  3. When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power buttons but continue to press and hold the Volume Up button.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up button.
  5. Using the Volume Down button, highlight "wipe data/ factory reset" and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Now, highlight "Yes-delete all user data" using the Volume Down button and press the Power button to begin the reset.
  7. When the master reset is complete, highlight "Reboot System Now" and hit the Power button.
  8. The Note 4 will restart but it will be longer than usual. When it reaches the Home screen, then begin your setup.

As a matter of fact, there are several users were complaining about this issue wherein their device won't power on after the update without apparent reason. On the other hand, problems like this is somehow caused by corrupt files and data or the firmware itself was corrupted during the process and resulted your phone not to turned on.

So, in this post, we will try to consider all possible causes why this issue is happening through performing the step by step procedure on your phone. If you are a Galaxy S4 users and you haven't experience this issue, then, we suggest you to continue reading this post for it might help you in the future. That being said, here are the methods that you should do:

Step 1: Verify if the battery is faulty and do a soft reset
In troubleshooting this problem, it is imperative that you should check if the battery is faulty or not. Because if it is, then that would be the reason that your phone refused to power on. In addition, if the battery is totally drained that would be another factor that your device is unable to turn on. So, in this instance, we will try to charge your phone to see if your S4 is capable to charge and the charging icon will appear on the screen.

While it is connected to the charger let it charge for at least 20 minutes regardless the icon will appear or not. When the time elapse and the icon appears try to power on your device to see if it is capable of doing so. If it is still unresponsive, disconnect it from the charger and remove the battery and press the Power key for 10 seconds to discharge all stored electricity in the hardware components. After you do so, place it back the battery and reconnect it to the charger and turned it on.

However, after you do all of that and nothing is happening on your phone, then proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Boot it in Safe Mode
In this method, we have to eliminate the suspicion that incompatible apps causing the issue by restarting it in safe mode. Through this environment all third-party apps will be eliminated temporarily and only the pre-installed ones will be running in the system. So, after booting your phone in this mode and the issue is not happening, then obviously there's an app you need to find and uninstall to get rid the issue. This is how you boot it in safe mode:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S4.
  2. When the Galaxy S4 appears on the screen, release the button and immediately press and hold the Volume Down key.
  3. Continue holding it until the phone finished restarting.
  4. If the phone successfully rebooted, you will see Safe mode in the bottom left corner of the screen. You may release the Volume Down key now.
However, safe mode is not helping the issue proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Wipe the System Cache Partition
Since, the system has been updated there is a chance that the system files and data were ruined during the process. These files and data are stored in the cache partition and responsible for the device to perform normally. Although there is no assurance that the issue will be fixed after performing the method but there were reports from other users saying that after doing it their device is already performing normally. So, by performing this method all files and data saved in the partition will be deleted and newer ones will be replaced.  Here's how:
  1. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
  2. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up and Home keys.
  3. When the Android System Recovery appears, release both remaining buttons.
  4. Use the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition' option and press the Power key select it.
  5. The phone will automatically restart once wiping is finished.
After clearing all system files and data try to Power on you device and see if it will. If the problem still persists you can jump over to the next method.

Step 4: Perform Master reset
If all procedures you performed failed to resolve the issue, then, the last option that you can do is to do a reset. Meaning, you have to delete files and data saved on your phone including: contacts, photos, music, videos and etc. So, before you have to follow the steps be sure to create first a backup and so that you can restore easily when the issue is fixed. But the good thing is, if this just a software problem, then this procedure will surely resolve it. 
  1. Turn off your Galaxy S4.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
  3. Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue to press and hold the Volume Up and Home keys.
  4. When the Android System recovery screen appears, release both the Home and Volume Up keys.
  5. Using the Volume Down key highlight 'wipe data/ factory reset.'
  6. Press the Power button to select it.
  7. Using the Volume Down button again, highlight 'delete all user data.'
  8. Press the Power key to select it.
  9. Once the reset is complete, choose 'Reboot system now.'
  10. Press the Power button to restart the device.
After you do the reset and your phone turned on, then obviously a software problem triggered it. But if reset is unable to fix the problem you can immediately bring your phone to the tech for your Galaxy S4 might have a hardware issue.
