Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy S5 S Health app not counting steps after installing system update

Application issue in android devices is rampant especially if the system has been updated. Although system update may fix problems but sometimes this could be one of the factors as well that issues will persist in the device. In this troubleshooting guide, I'll be tackling the problem sent by one of our readers complaining that the S Health app is not anymore counting steps after updating its Samsung Galaxy S5.

Mostly, this type of issue occur if the app's cache and data had been corrupted during the process. The good thing is, this might be a minor problem and it could be fixed through simple procedures.

Here are the procedures we suggest your to do on your phone

Step 1: Clear the S Health Cache and data
As I mentioned earlier, it's not far that the app's cache and data may be corrupted during the process and caused the S Health app to function abnormally. So, what we have to do now is to reset your app, meaning, we have to delete all old caches and data so that newer ones will be created.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Application manager.
  4. Scroll to and tap All tab.
  5. Tap Clear Data.
  6. Tap Clear Cache.
  7. Tap Ok.
After you reset the app, try to launch it again and see if the issue persist. If it is functioning normally, then corrupted cache and data triggered the issue. However, if your S Health app still not unable to function normally, proceed to the next procedure.

Step 2: Delete the System cache partition
Clearing the system cache partition is recommended to all android users especially after installing the latest software version. Doing this method, will remove all old caches stored in the directory that might causing the issue. After you do the step, your device will restart much longer than usual because it is creating newer files and data that is compatible to the new system. So, if obsolete caches triggered the problem, then after wiping the cache partition your app will work normally. Here's how:
  1. Turn off your Galaxy S5.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
  3. When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up and Home keys.
  4. When the Android System recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key highlight 'Wipe cache partition.'
  6. Press the Power key to select it.
  7. When the wipe partition is complete, 'Reboot System now' is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key restart the device.
Step 3: Backup all your files and reset your phone (optional)
However, after wiping the cache partition and your S Health still functions the same, then you don't have a choice but to do a reset. But before you do so, we recommend you to create a backup for all your saved files because it will be deleted once you proceed to the steps. This is how you reset your phone:
  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and Home key.
  4. When the Android System recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up key and Home key.
  5. Press the Volume Down key several times to highlight 'wipe data/factory reset.'
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume Down key until 'Yes -delete all user data'is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
