This is just a quick walkthrough on how to find the IMEI number and the Serial Number of your new Samsung Galaxy S5. It is intended for new owners who may still be learning a thing or two about their new device.

If you've called your service provider and were asked to verify your account, you may have been asked to provide your phone's IMEI and/or Serial numbers as part of verification procedure. The thing is these numbers are unique and every unit has different series of numbers as their identity.

The IMEI number alone will let you block the phone if it got lost and reported it to your service provider. This information is often taken for granted because it's not everyday that you will be asked about it. But now that you know, it's time you took a little time writing it now on a piece of paper and tuck it somewhere for future use.

Dial The Code

There is a code you need to dial using the Phone app in your device. Here's how…

  1. Launch the Phone application.
  2. If necessary, tap the Keypad tab to display the dialer.
  3. Dial this code: *#06# (star pound zero six pound)

The moment you finished dialing the code, the IMEI number will be shown on the screen. So, there's no need to hit the Call icon. Also note that only the IMEI is provided in this method.

Via The Settings Menu

While this method is easy, you need to go through the ordeal of tapping correct options to be able to find both the IMEI and the Serial Number. Here's how you do it:

  1. Pull the Notification Bar down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon (cogwheel) to display the Settings Menu.
  3. Scroll to and tap About device.
  4. Tap Status.
  5. You can now find both the IMEI and the Serial Number.

Beneath The Battery

This method may require a little effort as you have to pop the back cover open and remove the battery.

  1. Turn the phone off.
  2. Remove the back cover.
  3. Pull the battery out.
  4. You can now find the sticker with the IMEI and Serial Number printed on it.
  5. The numbers are properly labeled so you can find them easily; the IMEI is on top of the bar code while the SN is under.

On The Box

If you keep the boxes of your phones then this shouldn't bother you at all. More often, boxes are sealed with a sticker with bar codes on it.

Under the long bar is where you can find the IMEI of your phone. Just don't include the asterisks and slashes.

From Your Google Account

It is imperative you know by heart the Google account you setup on your phone because you can do a lot of things to your phone with that account. That said, you can find the IMEI number, locate it if it got lost, ring it if you've misplaced it or reset it if you needed to. Here's how you find the IMEI number.

  1. Using a computer browser, login to www.google.com/settings/dashboard using the Google account you've setup on your phone.
  2. If necessary, enter your Gmail address and password.
  3. Once inside your account, click Android and you will see your device(s) listed with its IMEI number.

Conclusion

Don't wait for the time when you can no longer access the IMEI number of your phone. As early as now, learn the methods I cited above. If you got questions, don't hesitate to contact me at harold@droidista.com.
