Galaxy S3 Problem: "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped"

A customer stopped by our shop today bringing his Samsung Galaxy S3 with him. He said he couldn't send a text message because every time he attempted to, a dialog box pops up:

"Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."

This is the error message our customer was getting. I asked him about significant events that could have led to this issue but he said all he did was update his phone to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

It makes sense. After the 4.3 update, many Galaxy S3 owners were complaining about this same problem. But I knew the problem wasn't something big, it was a minor glitch on the stock Messaging app and can be fixed by a simple housekeeping.

The problem was fixed within five minutes and it was a walk in the park. What I did was this:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap More tab.
  3. Choose Application Manager.
  4. Swipe right to display All tab's contents.
  5. Find Messaging.
  6. Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.
  7. Problem solved!

If the issue persisted after what I did, I could have gone as far as Factory Reset after I cleared the cache partition. Thank God I didn't have to go through that and the customer was happy. Easy money.
